Cryptic Crosswords

This course is aimed at beginners and will enable learners to understand how to analyse and solve cryptic crossword clues. It will take place weekly for 7 weeks. Topics will include types of wordplay (eg anagrams, hidden words, homophones, sandwiches and reversals) and how to spot them, common abbreviations used in cryptic clues, the role of punctuation in clues, and how some cryptic crossword setters seek to challenge us with their clues. You will need to purchase a workbook to participate in this course (currently £12, but this could increase). When signing up for the course, you are agreeing to pay this fee as the workbook has to be ordered in advance.
